Unable to connect to a computer on a local network

Unable to connect to a computer on a local network

Symptoms

When you try to connect to a mapped network drive you are unable, and no software or hardware changes have been implemented.

Cause

This can sometimes be caused when the 'server', the computer you are trying to connect to, was sleeping. On some systems, espeically Windows Vista, when the computer wakes up other computers won't be able to connect to it, even though it can connect to other computers.

Resolution

To fix this connection problem, restart the 'server'.

More Information

This most often occurs when the 'server' is Windows Vista.
