Starting with version 4.2 of the Solatech Window Covering Software, the default printer configuration is no longer used. This article explains how and why and what this does to the configuration of the software.
The default printer configuration, called (Default), has been used in all versions of the Solatech Window Covering Software. Starting with version 4.0 however printer configurations have taken on a different function and this causes a default printer configuration (or any printer configuration supplied by Solatech) to not be very effective.
In version 4.x printer configurations store not only the printer name to be used but also page setup settings. Since the page setup settings are different for different printers it's not very effective to supply one default configuration that can be used by all computers.
Starting with version 4.2 users cannot modify any files supplied by Solatech. This is mainly due to security settings in Windows Vista. Since the default printer configuartion is a supplied file and it needs to be modified by most users in order to be used, we have decided to no longer support it.
SWCS installs four different printer configurations for the different types of reports/labels and they are setup with common page setup settings.
