How to setup Outlook, Gmail or AOL for use in Email Manager

This article explains how to setup email in Solatech for three common email carriers:  Microsoft Outlook, Gmail and AOL.

Instructions for Microsoft Outlook

  • Close Solatech 4.2
  • Install Hotfix 12182017, using this link: Hotfix12182017
  • Open Solatech 4.2 and go to Tasks>Email Manager
  • Use the Tools Dropdown menu and select "Select Sending Method"
  • Select "Use Microsoft Outlook" 
  • Hit OK to exit and save your changes

Note:  You must have the full version of Outlook as your email client on the computer (Not Outlook Express, Outlook Online or any other email client)

Instructions for Gmail

  • Before we begin setup in Solatech, we need to make a slight adjustment in Gmail.  Login to your Gmail account
  • Click on My Account 
  • On the My Account Window, Select "Sign In &Security" 
  • Scroll down to Allow less secure apps and move the slider bar to ON 
  • Install Hotfix 12182017, using this link: Hotfix12182017
  • Open Solatech 4.2 and go to Tasks>Email Manager
  • Use the Tools Dropdown menu and select "Select Sending Method"
  • Select "Solatech Email (recommended)"
  • Click the Setup my Account button
  • In the Outgoing Server (SMTP) enter smtp.gmail.com
  • Place a checkmark in the box, My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
  • Enter your User Name (Gmail email address) and your password
  • For the SMTP authentication method, select Automatic
  • Place a check mark next to SMTP server requires a SSL/TLS connection
  • Place a mark in the circle Issue a STARTTLS command
  • Switch to the Advanced Tab
  • Enter port number 587
  • Press OK to exit and save your changes

Instructions for AOL

  • Install Hotfix 12182017, using this link: Hotfix12182017
  • Open Solatech 4.2 and go to Tasks>Email Manager
  • Use the Tools Dropdown menu and select "Select Sending Method"
  • Select "Solatech Email (recommended)"
  • Click the Setup my Account button
  • In the Outgoing Server (SMTP) enter  smtp.aol.com 
  • Place a checkmark in the box, My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
  • Enter your User name (AOL email address) and your password. 
  • Place a check mark in the box SMTP Server requires a SSL/TLSConnection 
  • Place a mark in the circle Issue a STARTTLS command
  • Switch to the Advanced Tab
  • Enter port number:  587 
  • Press OK to exit and save your changes
  • Try sending a test email.  
  • When the email fails, navigate to this link:  AOL Filter
  • Sign into your AOL account
  • Enter the text shown in the image
  • Press Continue
