This article explains how to rename a SWCS 4.2 company database.

There are a few prerequisites that must be met before you rename the company database:

• The Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express tool must be installed on the computer that you will be using. This can be the server or a workstation. • This document assumes you are using the SQL Server that was installed with the Solatech software.

Moving the Company Database

Before you start

• Make sure that the Solatech Window Covering Software is not running on any computer except the one that currently has the company.

Find the location of the database files

1. On the computer where the company database currently resides run the Solatech Window Covering Software.
2. From the File menu click File Manager.
3. Select the File type Companies.
4. Write down the Location. This is the folder where the company files are currently stored.
5. If you are moving the other files (products, reports, etc.) then write down the locations for each file type.

Get the login information for the database

1. Run Windows Explorer.
2. Navigate to the folder where the company files are stored.
3. Find the files for the company you want to move. There will be three files with the same name but different extensions. Find the file with a .psd extension.
4. Open the .psd file with Notepad.
5. Locate the words <Host> and </Host>. Between these words is the name of the SQL Server that contains the company database. Write this down.
6. Leave this file open as you will need to make a change in it later.

Rename the database from the current computer

1. Close SWCS.
2. Run Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express. To do this click Start, Programs, Microsoft SQL Server 2005, SQL Server Management Studio Express.
3. When prompted to login, select or enter the name of the SQL server that contains the company database.
4. Choose 'SQL Server Authentication' for the Authentication method.
5. Enter a user name of 'sa' and a password of 'swcs'.
6. Click Connect.
7. Expand the folder 'Databases'.
8. Right click on the database for the company you want to rename and choose Rename.
9. Enter the new name of the database. Use numbers and letters only and no spaces.
10. Press Enter to save your changes.
11. Close the management studio.

Edit the company files

1. Switch back to Notepad where the .psd file is open.
2. Locate the words <CompanyDatabase> and </CompanyDatabase>.
3. Change the name between these words to the new name of the database.
4. Save and close this file.

That's it. No changes need to be made to the other computers running SWCS.
