More Information

Notice

The steps in this article assume you have the following software:

  • Solatech Window Covering Software, Fabrication Edition
  • Product Designer

The steps in this article assume you are:

  • Familiar with working with Product Designer
  • are able to add options with formulas and lists

More Information

When a label is setup to be printed without any specific criteria it will print no matter what is on the order. This means that when a horizontal valance label is setup to print for any horizontal blind order, it will print even if the user has selected to not include a valance or the style "Slats Only" was selected. In order to skip the valance label you need to add a filter criteria to the label so it knows when to print and when not to print.

Adding the filter criteria is a two step process. The first step involves adding an option to each style that will be used to indicate if a valance label should be printed. The second step is to modify the valance label setup (not the label itself) to use the option to determine if it should be printed.

Adding an option to indicate if a valance label should be printed

The option that will be added will be an invisible option. It will have a value of 1 or 0. A value of 1 indicates that the valance label should print. A value of 0 indicates that it should not print. How this option is added to the style depends on the type of style.

For styles with an option to select the valance type

In order to have the new option indicate when the valance label should be printed we need to connect it to the valance type option. Each time a valance type is selected this new option will have it's value changed to indicate if the valance label should or should not print.

Create a list that will indicate the print status for each valance type

  1. Open the product in Product Designer
  2. From the View menu, click Lists. (You can also click the Lists icon on the tool bar)
  3. Add a new List named Print Valance Label
  4. Assign the Valance Type list as the Parent List
  5. Assign 1 as the Item Name to each Valance Type in the List
  6. Assign 0 as the Item Name to the None or No value

Create an option that will use the above list and sync with the Valance Type option

  1. Expand the Options list (click the + in front of the Style name)
  2. 2) Add the following new option: Option = PrintValanceLabel, Display = Retail, Type = List, List = Print Valance Label, Parent = Valance Type Option
  3. Enter a test order to make sure the new option gets a 1 or 0 based on the type of valance selected. Once the values are confirmed, change the Display to Invisible.

For styles that don't have a valance type

This is for styles such as Valance Only or Slats Only. Adding the option to this type of style is very easy because it does not change when the other options change.

If the style should print a valance label

  1. Open the product in Product Designer.
  2. From the View menu click Styles.
  3. Select the style that you want to print a valance label.
  4. From the View menu click Style Options.
  5. Add the following new option: Option = PrintValanceLabel, Sort= 0, Display = Invisible, Type = Formula, Formula = 1
  6. That's it. This style is now setup to tell SWCS to print a valance label whenever it's used. Repeat these steps for all other styles in this product.

If the style should not print a valance label

  1. Open the product in Product Designer.
  2. From the View menu click Styles.
  3. Select the style that you don't want to print a valance label.
  4. From the View menu click Style Options.
  5. Add the following new option: Option = PrintValanceLabel, Sort= 0, Display = Invisible, Type = Formula, Formula = 0
  6. That's it. This style is now setup to tell SWCS to never print a valance label whenever it's used. Repeat these steps for all other styles in this product.

Configure the valance label to use the criteria when printing

Now that the option has been added to tell the label when it should print, the label configuration itself needs to be modified to use the option.

Note: The steps below assume you have already setup your labels to print at the required time, based on Output Type, Product Type, Product, etc.

  1. Click Tasks, Manage Process Reports.
  2. On the toolbar, click Setup Reports.
  3. Change the Output Type, Product, Type, etc. until the valance label you want to configure is visible
  4. Select the valance label and from the toolbar click Edit.
  5. Click the Production Label Settings tab.
  6. At the bottom of the dialog box is a text entry field whose heading starts with "If you only want to print...". In this field type the following (without the quotes): "[PrintValanceLabel] = 1"
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Close.
  9. Close the Reports Center and now test your label.
