This article provides an overview of the SWCS 4.2 Company Maintenance Utility, what it is and when you should use it.
The SWCS 4.2 Company Maintenance Utility was created to automate some basic maintenance functions that should be performed on any SWCS company database on a regular basis. The functions that this utility performs are:
During normal operation of the Solatech Window Covering Software various events are recorded in the event log for diagnostic purposes. Over time this log can grow causing the database to grow in size. In order to reduce the size of the database the event log must be purged. This can be done in the SWCS software but it's easier to do it using this utility. If the box 'Cleanup the event log' is checked then the utility will look for any events that are six months or older. These events will be saved to a text file in the folder \ProgramData\Solatech\SWCS42CMU and then deleted from the company database.
Just like the event log, the audit log can also grow over time, usually faster than the event log. If the box 'Cleanup the audit log' is checked then the utility will look for any audit event older than six months, save them and then delete them.
During normal operation of your software the database can grow in size and become fragmented. By checking the box 'Optimize the database' the utility will attempt to speed up the performance of the database by reindexing the tables, removing unused space and shrinking the size of the database files.
To run the SWCS 4.2 Company Maintenance Utility, run the Solatech Window Covering Software. From the File menu click Utilities. Then find the program called 'swcs42cmu' and double-click it. Follow the instructions.
