Alternative to Windows Journal for Windows 8 Users
This article explains how to use the built in Windows 8 app called
Reader. Reader will enable SWCS users to capture customer signatures and
save them in a PDF format.
Step-by-step guide
As a result of various Microsoft Windows updates, Windows Journal no
longer works properly for users whose computers run Windows 8 or Windows
8.1. An alternative for SWCS customers who wish to capture customer
signatures is a Windows 8 built in app called "Reader". Instructions on
how to use this app are below:
-
Open an order in Solatech Window Covering Software
-
Click the Print button.
-
Select the output you wish to view (typically Order Confirmation or Invoice).
-
Click the Preview button.
-
On the Print Preview screen, press the floppy disc icon in the upper left hand corner of the window. This is the "Save" button.
-
Save the output in an easily accessible location on your computer. You may rename the document if so desired.
-
Close the Print Preview screen.
-
Navigate to the location of the file you saved earlier.
-
Right click on the file name, and select "Open With".
-
From the list of available programs, select Reader (NOT Adobe reader).
-
Your saved file will open in the Reader program, and you will be
able to use your stylus to capture signatures or add handwritten notes.
Please note that you cannot use fingertip touch in the Reader app.
-
You can print the document with signature from within the Reader app.
-
When you save the Reader file, it will be a PDF document which can be emailed to your customers if needed.
