After running PC cleaning software, SWCS no longer starts

Symptoms

After running PC cleaning software such as CCleaner, the Solatech Window Covering Software no longer runs. An error message "Run-time error 9" or an error message with the word "vbalExpBar6" may sometimes display.

Cause

This can be caused if certain Windows registry entries required by third-party software that Solatech uses are deleted from the registry.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, the missing registry entries need to be added back to registry. This can be done by re-registering certain files with Windows. Refer to article "[295060] - Run-time error 0 with vbalExplorerBarLib" for complete steps on how to register the required files.

Status

Solatech has confirmed this to be a problem with the software listed at the end of this article. As more information becomes available this article will be updated.

More Information

One of the functions that software such as CCleaner perform is to reduce the size of the Windows registry by deleting what it thinks are un-needed references to files. Some entries can be seen as unneeded if they are not installed or setup correctly during software installation.

Some of the third-party files that the Solatech Window Covering Software uses are not always recorded correctly in the registry. While they will function and are still used by SWCS, sometimes cleaning software will see them as invalid and remove references to these files. While the files still exist, without the registry entries SWCS cannot find and use them which causes problems.
